New Young Notables Spring Group Help?

I am again going to facilitate a Young Numismatist group at our elementary school. The group will be after school and consist of 20 students in grades 3-5. Five will be returning students from one of the first two classes and 15 will be rookies. I plan to start this group after Spring Break and run through June. We will again feature currency and coin collecting. We will cover basic grading, caring for collections, value, and other core collecting concepts. The experience last year and earlier this year was great and I look forward to this group. I am again thankful for the support of PCGS Currency. I could not have done these groups without their support and the many wonderful individuals from these boards that donated items including: FRN's; Silver Certificates; World Notes; Mylar Holders, Ancient Roman Coins; Silver War Nickels, Coin Albums, Informational Booklets, and a host of other items. Anyone interested in supporting this venture please PM me. I will update the group's progress here and include pictures of donated materials with the lucky recipients of your generosity. Thanks again for all of your support. -Frank

P.S. The video from the last class is still up on Youtube under "Young Notables".
P.P.S. My paypal address per request: sales@reindeermtn.com
(Thanks Roman!)

Frank, I don't really have any of those things, but can you add your PayPal address to the original post and i'll send a small donation towards this very worthy cause. The success of our hobby depends on planting that seed of knowledge, understanding and curiousity in kids. Even if they don't find it interesting at the time, eventually they will grow-up, get some disposable income and start looking for a hobby. At which time they will once again remember those sessions a long time ago where they gained a new appreciation for coins.

    I know that's how I got started.

Thanks for your support Roman. I appreciate the help. -Frank
  • Frank,

Though I won't be able to send a donation right away, I am sure I can put together some interesting items shortly after the class is formed. You already know that my donations will primarily focus on one specific category, but I think I can find a few things from other categories to spice up the mix. I just watched (for the first time) the YouTube video, and I must say that it was very well done. Good luck on your next class, and hopefully others will be encouraged to participate in the donations. I can assure them that the regular updates you provide are most enjoyable.

I'll pm you when I get some items together.

Omega, not to be a downer to such a wonderful class, but do the parents of these kids know that their little ones are on youtube? We had some issues with this here in NC with a teacher posting classes on youtube and parents went crazy. Just something to think about. I do love the fact you are teaching this class and I hope all goes well. I do Gang and Violent Crime investigations here in NC and the city that I work for has a sharply different demographic than what is in that classroom. I am curious if this is a public or private school and if you have had any different types of classes, mixtures of kids...if you will... I'm not sure that I could get our kids interested in something like this.

    Hi Todd,
Yes, the kids parents are aware of the video. It is a public school. The class is probably an accurate representation of the cultural demographics of the school. You never know if anyone will show an interest until you try. Most kids seem to just want to know someone cares enough to spend some time with them. You can PM me if you would like to talk further. -Frank
