  • Need? A MUST for the beach= A sand scoop (wire basket) with about a 30 inch long handle.
A pouch to put TRASH/FINDS into.

Parks...a digging tool. A "pin pointer" can help.

    Demo site...same as parks.

In dirt/grass-LEARN to dig and REPLACE all dirt and grass. Take all trash with you.

    Have Fun

I live at the beach in CA. I really want to play around with a metal detecter when my husband makes me take long walks (boooooooooring!!!!!).
Beside the detector itself, what other goodies does a beginner sleuth need?
I would be starting out at the beach (wet and dry), as well as parks and maybe some recently demolished building sites...

    Thanks!

Ok now to your question. Crock of coins has it right. Make sure you have a really nice digger for parks and demo sites. Something that won't put stress on your hands and it very comfortable. You might be concerned with size because you dont want to lug around a spade shovel with ya while your out. To give you an idea lemme post a picture.

Here's my ugly mug. I dont look like this any more. Now I have boils all over my face and my feet are backward. But notice the belt. I bought one of those nylon tool belts(not with pouches in the front but on the side) from the hardware store and sewn my fisher pouch to it. Gives me a place for junk and coins and I can hang my digger on one side and my pinpointer on the other. In belt pouches I carry extra batteries, small pair of clippers for roots and my plastic sheet(to keep the lawn clean), Very very handy.

Here is a shot of the digger I use. its 12" long , very durable, light and the handle is made of rubber so its comfortable.

Fo the beach you will need a sand scoop. I don't hunt beaches so I don't have a scoop. Can't recommend one either.
