Why I like to stop at the coin store now and again

I didn't even know I wanted these until I saw them at the shop (I got a new printer/scanner/copier and I'm playing with the scanner this afternoon):

Very nice for local pickups! My local shops have been DEAD for months as far as Darkside is concerned.

If you feel like selling that Central American 1836 8 reales, please shoot me a PM. image

Wow. You have way better coin shops near you than I have near me! What are the little tiny ones? They look very cool!

I can't see if the date is 1907, but if it is they are Medio Centésimo.

At first, I thought I was going to come up empty- when I asked what kind of world stuff he had, the dealer said "Not much." I was just kind of browsing the trays in the display cases when he said "I do have some things here" and brought over a small pile of coins in 2x2s from his desk- the scan is about half of them. Nice world stuff is real hit and miss at the stores around here, but I'm working on reinforcing the idea that the owners should keep me in mind when it turns up by buying whatever I can when I get the chance.

The group of seven tiny ones are "Panama Pills"- they're the 1904 2 1/2 centesimos- an interesting one-year type, for sure.

2 ounces of stapels in each 2X2.

They're definitely a different kind of2x2. The dealer said he had a customer come in with them to see if he was interested in partnering with him in marketing them. The mylar windows are extremely heavy duty and with all the staples he used (also apparently heavy duty), the coins don't move around inside the holders *at all*. On the minus side, the outside of the holder is mylar covered, too, so you can't hardly write on them without a magic marker.

Very nice!! Those are some of my favorite world coin designs.
I collect history in the form of coins.
  • Nice coins. image I really like the "Panama Pills".

You might even come out ahead with free coins, once you sell the the staples as "recycled aluminum".
