That's what they said about the Devil Rays before the 2008 season. Stranger things have happened in sports. You just never know.

All I hope for is Kentucky to make a BCS bowl this year to make up for our, eh sub par basketball effort. image

they certainly have gotten rid of the #1 impediment (Millen), now they just have to use their thirteen first round picks wisely (or whatever they have)

I do feel bad for Detroit fans...no team deserves to be that bad for that long

Hard to compare the Lions to the Devil Rays. The Rays were full of young talent, the Lions...well, the Lions have....errr. At least in free agency the Lions picked up....oh, never mind. At least they can not do worst then in 2008.

There are some solid rumors going around they will pick Jason Smith with the #1 pick.....they have entered contract talk already.

If true then this the best case scenery for the Chiefs, who can then pick LB Aaron Curry.

    They suck.

But it could be worse. They could have had their you-know-what handed to them like the Titans did today (59-0 loss to New England).

yes their loses are getting less ugly but they need Stafford back and end the Daunte experience.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a Lions upset in at least one of these games.

Detroit has acquired some decent free agents to this point. There's still talk of others, but doubt they'll be able to do what it takes to get Haynesworth and I am not sure Pacman is a wise consideration. I think trading Sims was a good move. The guy hasn't really been much of a playmaker here. If you look at stats alone, he doesn't seem bad to those who don't watch the Lions often. For those of us that do, he's just not a great 'backer. They "helped" the O-line, secondary and D-line through free agency. As for the draft, the desperately need more DL, RB and DB help and still need something in the way of a LB. Some reports say Dizon and Follett have looked good in the spring, but time will tell. I expect them to take Suh with the second pick, but... you never know with Detroit. I doubt they'll take an LT because they didn't move Backus and the recent acquisition of a LG means Backus is unlikely to be moved inside. I love Suh and even McCoy, but wouldn't mind a trade down to acquire picks and even a guy like Spiller or Berry. I think it will be tough to move down though, so I expect them to pick at #2.

In the end, I still believe that the Lions are a minimum of 2 years away from being a playoff contender. That's still wishful thinking but I am a Lions fan and that's all I have. image

I grew up in Phoenix and I said the same thing about the Cardinals. It was almost painful rooting for them all those years. But anything can happen. It's amazing what a stud QB and a couple fast guys to catch the ball can do.

Yeah, you can thank the Rams for making the glamour pick, instead of picking the best player. Congrats.

Quite happy with Suh and very intrigued with the Best pick. If he can remain healthy here, I think this guy becomes a special player in the NFL.
