I was looking for a football player to collect in the early 1990s, and I chose Rick Mirer.

It became a running joke amongst my fantasy football league, because he was... well... Rick Mirer. As he traveled through all the teams, every time he was going to start a game in the NFL, I would sign him and start him, regardless of consequences. The last season that he started (occasionally) was 2003(?) with the Raiders. I stuck by my word, and started him, even through the playoffs. I still managed to make it to the championship of my league.

I had two quarterbacks on my roster, Mirer and Brett Favre. I went back on my word, and decided to start Favre. The Packers and Raiders were set for a Monday Night game. Our rosters froze after the kickoff of the first game of the weekend. I begged and pleaded with my opponent to allow me to start Mirer all of Sunday afternoon, and Monday. He refused, repeatedly. See, Brett Favre's dad had died, and he wasn't supposed to play. I thought my cause was hopeless.

But Favre did play. And he went nuts in the first half, and I won the championship. And that, my friends, is how Rick Mirer won me a Fantasy Football championship.
