Emmitt Smith Master Set

Inspired by the Ripken collectors and their terrific thread that i've enjoyed reading, i decided to start a thread of the player who's set im collecting at the moment . I just recently jumped back into this set after selling off my Emmitt's a while back . It's definetly one of the longer player sets out there but im determined to stick with it this time ! Currently in the 6th spot with hopes of moving up the ladder in the near future

Hopefully other Emmitt collectors, whether raw or graded, will share their cards and stories here . I know of one friend on these boards who has just a couple Emmitt's im sure he'll share ;-)

Sorry about that Dave..LOL I am mostly to blame for the set going from 945 cards when I started it to up over 1650 now image

I have recently expanded my collection to other grading companies as well due to limitations of what PSA will or won't grade.

For example, game used cards I send to BGS being the PSA slabs were so bad for these cards they deleted the service.

I am way happier not being to tied to one grading company and my collection is growing faster than ever.

One of my favorite cards. Picked this up raw back in 94 at a show and had it slabbed by SGC

It's easy to see why that's one of your favorites. If signs at all during his induction that might the card I have signed b/c its one of my favorites. I also like the 91 stadium club and the 92 Pro Set b/c of the action shots.

Here are a couple raw cards I am afraid to send in for grading for fear of getting them damaged.

    image

The next cards are also some favorites of mine. 1992 Breyers Bookmarks. Tough set to get that I was thrilled to finally pick up a while back. They are about 2"x 8".

    imageimage

    imageimage

I have no idea what this jumbo card is. I know it has soemthing to do with Classic Proline being that the pics are the same ones used on the 1993 versions of the cards. The full size MJ pic is on the reverse

Awesome, another Emmitt collector. Welcome !

Matt, don't be sorry for adding over 700 cards to the set lol , it wouldn't be a true modern player set if it was under 1000 cards

Hey, what do you guys think of this guys explanation about this Burger King card. Price seems very high also

I don't buy it Dave. I actually linked that same auction here a while back and the seller has since relisted the card. That "explaination" was not there at the time I linked it unless I missed it but I don't think so.

Also, as you said, that card is way overpriced.

Matt i've never seen that card of him in the Fla uni , cool card. What company is that from ? I like that breyers card also, im a sucker for oddball stuff

So whats the story with PSA grading GU cards ? Did they give it up ? If so i think they need to come up with a holder that works.

It's from Classic. I really enjoy the oddball stuff as well Dave.

The service is no longer available on the "list of services" but I found this:

<< <i>Tall Boys, coins, pins and modern memorabilia cards are available on each of the above services but must be submitted as a separate order with separate shipping and handling fees. >>

It's kinda confusing but I assume they suspended it and rightfully so, untill they could make a better slab.

I have never seen any of those before. I love the die-cut, I always like cards that have him in his Gators uniform since he isn't pictured in it too often.

I have never seen that explanation before for a fake Burger King RC.

Looks like your #22 tore up the room like Smith tore up a defense. That's a great looking card, why the hesitation? How do you get the black background on your cards, they really stand out.

LOL, he sure did. Check the cats on the gerbil cage. One is on top and the other is actually in there with him LOL

I'm kinda scarred recently from getting back too many damaged cards. The damage is happening during the slabbing process.

All I do is scan with the lid up image

That's funny, I'm sure the gerbil didn't have the same feeling though.

I can see why you are hesitant if some damage is occuring. A damaged card in a 9 or 10 holder isn't pretty. On a side note a few of the BGS cards I have bought recently (I stress few b/c I have not been buying many since the site switch) have had debris sealed in with the card. I just bought one of the BGS Fleer rookies and there seems to be a very small piece of fuzz sealed on the front of the card.

I can see why that's you favorite, it's very nice piece that presents well. The framing had to be costly. The Pro Line Smith card is a unique card and one I actually like alot. I believe there is print of that portrait on ebay right now.
