How has the introduction of "Genuine" holders affected PCGS grading?

Are coins that used to be considered "market acceptable" now being put into "genuine" holders?

Are freshly graded PCGS coins that have a grade assigned now more desirable because of this (if it is the case)?

From the few coins I have sent in since the new policy. I have seen nothing that would make me think they have changed anything other than using holders instead of BBs.

I have have three come back in BBs and I agree with all of them. I have one I thought would Genuine and it came back with a grade.

3 genuine out of about 20 coins. I knew they would come back that way.

I sent in my first batch in a while and they all graded.

That said I have seen some boarderline coins from others that are going into Genuine holders where they might have gotten into a graded holder before this started.

No proof of anything, just my 2C.

They are the same just with different labels. You still have to pay the full grading fee. You do have an option for coins that are not gradable to be returned in a flip but that seems like a waste to me unless the plan is to re-submit until it makes graded plastic.

In other words, the genuine holder is a replacement for body bag on coins that are "genuine" but might be cleaned or have environmental damage. x I would assume it increases the value of the coin from a ungraded raw coin, because at least you know its a Genuine coin..

Given the number of Genuine coins on Teletrade these days, I am suspect that they are having a negative impact. Unlike the sales pitch by PCGS that putting your 1804 Dollars in a damaged holder would be a good thing, it appears high mintage widgets are being dumped on Teletrade that found themselves in Genuine holders.

I hope what we are seeing is the result of what was once a routine number of body bagged coins that folks feel they can now sell because they are in genuine holders. OR is it the idea that everybody can get any piece of junk in a Genuine holder because the plastic alone in their minds make the coin inside worth at least $20.

I think it will hurt them. Collectors sending classic coins like draped bust and capped bust coinage will not be very happy with the results as many of these are put in genuine holders. Eventually collectors will rather have their coin raw than in a Genuine holder. A dealer I am good friends had a few genuine holders in his case, and he told me that no customers asked to see them. Probably not a good sign, and I think PCGS will be hurt in the long run.

A number of dealers had full display cases of PCGS Genuine holdered Bust Half Dollars. When a dealer specializes in Bust Halves, that is to be expected, but some dealers had ONLY PCGS Genuine holdered CBHs. My guess is that some collections simply were practically all tampered with Busties.

I think PCGS made a big mistake by offering the Genuine holder. I said this right from the start, well before the holders were offered. Some say it is a benefit because the holder specifies the reason the coin did not grade, but on many coins, there are many reasons for not grading. Apparently some collectors want their entire set to be PCGS so the set holders match. That seems silly to me.

I have nothing to prove that PCGS now uses the Genuine holder more often than they would use the body bag for a given group of coins. For many years I felt ANACS was too free with their Details holders. Why should PCGS be any different?

Unless my Genuine holdered coin was a very rare variety, I would sell it.
