Portland ANA - Mini Report #1 and #2, March 13

Day #1, Thrusday, March 12
TrainNut (my YN) and I flew into Portland today, and out first stop was the convention center. There were a few dealers milling around, and I was under the impression that the security room would store coins overnight - not! Oh well. Then went to the B&M auction lot viewing. The number of lots is small, but overall, some nice coins in there and the people were very nice.
Since we got up at 5 this morning and we did not get to bed until 10 last night, TrainNut was fading during lot viewing, so we decided to check into the hotel and get something to eat. On the way out we bumped into Julian and Barry Stuppler. The dealers were waiting for their early entry, but I passed on the $100 fee. I say Andy Lustig (Mr. Eureka), but did not have a chance to introduce myself. Had a nice lunch at the Rock Bottom in downtown, then back to the hotel.
A quiet night for us - the highpoint will likely be "Dirty Jobs", "Storm Stories" or some other guy TV.
I'll try to update every day, but I'm no competition for CRO.
Day #2, Friday, March 13
Got to the show at 9:00 and registered, then looked at some more auction lots in the bowers sale. Waled in a little after the 10am rush, and saw Heritage at the entrance. Tney had no auction lots for future sales for viewing there, but they were coin dealering for gold. Brought 3 common $20 liberties, a NGC62, and 2 xf/au Type 2's. They offerred me 17% more than my opening negotiating numbers, so I said "sold!".
Next stop was to introduce myself to Doug Winter. He was not busy, and only had a few coins out, but one caught my eye - a $5 Liberty, 1842-D small date in PCGS VF30(CAC). After being flush with my success at Heritage, I pulled the trigger on his asking price. Maybe he will throw in an autographed copy of his book
Julian was there, but I had to look for him, as he did not have the first table in. TrainNut showed him some error coins that he "found", we'll shoot sokme pics and post when we get home.
Met Richie U Rich and Mr. Eureka (no dog at this show) and hasd nice chats with both. Also looked up Nevada Coin (the Broken CC guys) and Grant Campbell. Both top flight dealers.
Coin Rarities was stuck in the very back, but found them and looked again at their 1795 half cent and a 1795 bust dollar. By then my Heritage exuberance wore off, so I'm still cogitating on these and wondering what I would sell without the Mrs. figuring it out
He did have a nifty 1906 $2/5 Liberty MS63 in an OGH (another CAC green bean) that I did buy for the 20th century gold type set.
The Bowers sale was at 6:00, and I think we missed one buy for TrainNut - a 1874-S trade dollar, pcgs xf45 with a chop mark that hammerred at $187. If the coin was as nice as the description, that seemed to be a good buy.
There were 5 commems that hit my interest and price points, and I got 3, but did not get the primo one, a Hudson in MS64 rattler holder. I was ready to go $850, but got outbid and it hammerred at $950. I did win an Albany, a Norfolk and a Vancouver.

I'm getting excited. I'll be there all day on Saturday and am sneaking in tomorrow for a quick peak.
This one is going to pcgs in person. I cannot figure out what grade it is (at least a 64) and if it can get a PL or even DMPL
designation. It's got the mirrors and frost I think, but tough to tell with all the purple tone.
(Edited to add I know you guys can't tell from these photo's, but it's a keeper and frosty enough in hand to
give it a try.)
