Hello I am new to foreign coins and I was wondering if ...

Anyone had a price for a 1953 South African 5 schilling in ms 63/64 range?

    Welcome to the Darkside! image

The 2009 Krause value in UNC is $16, unlisted in BU.

It's not an area I collect, but I'm sure someone else may be able to give more info on market trends.
  • Thank you for the information.

I am very fond of large size silver coins. However, I am finding it hard to determine the coin size and content. Is there a place on line that list darkside coins their size and metal content?

Nothing on point available online that I'm aware of. We're generally dependent on using the Krause catalogs.

The 1953 South Africa 5 Shilling piece is 0.500 silver, with an asw of 0.4546 according to Krause.

If you don't want to purchase the Krause books you can go to the library and research your coins there. As your collection grows I am sure you will be buying one. Welcome to the darkside,

I also collect large silver coins. Check out my blog in the link below for some of the coins from my collection. If you plan to collect foriegn coins a Krause cataloge is a great investment.
