It's coins like this that give toned MPLs a bad reputation.

Link to coin on eBay.

I was watching this coin on eBay, and was tempted to make a thread about it before hand, but I restrained myself. This coin looks all wrong to me, clearly not an original toner like many of the great looking coins owned by board members here. This coin reminds me a lot of the 1914 ahooka posted about a year ago, which was formerly PCGS, then messed with and slabbed by NGC PR66RB STAR. What are the other opinions?

    Paul,

I have copies of the matte proof listings from about 25 auction catalogs that date from 1975 to 1980. The auction description for many, many mattes indicate that blues and violets were common more than 30 years ago. This coin may have been MS-70'ed, I dont know, but I do know this type of toning has been around for decades.

It is not my coin. I do not know who owns it and I have no relationship with the seller.
