BoSox vs. Yanks spending- I hate to say it...

So the season is almost upon us. Time to look back over the last few months and evaluate the signings of the most heated rivalry in all of sports, the Yankees & Red Sox. Now, first as a Yankees fan I am very happy we got Teixeria. We needed him. A great bat & good glove at first, solid presence in clubhouse, a no distractions type guy who shows up everyday and gets the job done. CC was simply OUTSTANDING with the Brewers, woulda been Cy Young if not MVP if he had spent the full season in the A.L. Burnett, hmmmmm...I don't know, he seems to be good...when he's not injured. So the jury is still out on him.

But even through all that, the burning question I have to ask myself is:

The Yankees have spent 423 million on CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett and Mark Teixeira this off season. The Red Sox spent 70 million on Jon Lester and Dustin Pedroia.

Who got the better deal?

The Red Sox. No question. I hate to say it.

Your thoughts?

I think CC & Tex were great signings- Burnett was horrible, one thing about Tex is Im not sure which guy you got - the guy who had 6 hr's ( or 9 ) before the All-Star break a few years ago or the 35+ HR guy? I would be lying if I said I wasnt dissapointed that we didnt get him though. Pedroia & Lester will prove to be great value signings imo, however the Sox lineup is still lacking another big bat and a SS & C who can actually hit, Im not liking the Sox lineup this year and before this Aroid fiasco I was thinking the Yankees will battle it out with the Rays for the division, now Im not sure.

Im hoping the A's stink it up and the Sox end up with Holiday image

Don't forget that the Sox also signed an extension with Youkilis. Between Pedroia, Youkilis, and Lester the Sox spent $112 million for 15 years. I think a deal with Jason Bay can't be far off either.

I don't know if those guys will have the same impact that the Yankee signings will, but from a financial standpoint I think the Sox got more dollar for dollar.

bingo on the Youkilis extension. Not only do I think the Sox and Bay are talking about an extension, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are trying to lock up Beckett, Okajima, and DelCarmen.
