Matte Proof Lincoln's for the week of 3-9

WaterSportWaterSport Posts: 6,829 ✭✭✭✭✭
85 Coins this week ( a new record) and what a pain to manage this number of listings, pics, etc. I can assure you if there had been any surf this week you would not be seeing this list. I will say that those coins added to the Stacks auction are far superior in color and over all eye appeal than those offered at Heritage so be sure to check them out. I doubt we will see any additions this close to the Baltimore auction but check their sites every couple of days anyway. I just hope some of you buy some of these coins so the list gets shorter

Till next week

I wonder how the luster is image You can never tell from those Bowers photos. Aside from that, it's quite nice, though the blowups reveal the tiniest of pinpoint specs, and only very few of those to boot. Should be crazy to watch that coin go off.

There are quite a few top Registry player's in the MPL ranks that could use this coin. It could bring MOON MONEY!

Looks like I have a bunch more to add from Bowers! And now that I just added them, for some reason the #$%^& Links are not working, so please wait till this evening when I get home on my Apple Computer and get rid of the Piece of crap DELL ( its always better to blame the computer and not the operator! image

    Bob,
If this listing contains 85 slabbed MPL coins, then this listing contains 1.728% of ALL the MPL's ever slabbed by PCGS, NGC and ANACS.

    Doug:

It's a lot more work than I care for and once again I will skip an update the week of the 23rd until the dust settles from the Baltimore auction. When I started this project, it was based on my experience that less than One MPL showed up in a month – that was over 3 years ago. The first weekly list had around a dozen with auctions having around 30-40. A year and a half later, the numbers have doubled. Of course, so have the values. But since there has not been a price increase except for a couple of rare grades since last November, you have to wonder what is going to happen after the Baltimore auction with so many MPL’s for sale. We can speculate that either price will hold, because the coin now has a true value based on its scarcity in numbers, or we have hit the peak, and the values will now go down. Given the volume that is available in most grades and in all dates I can not see it going up at all, except for those few rare pieces. With this kind of inventory one could have a complete set by the end of two weeks instead of the end of the year.

Steve: That’s almost 2%! Not a big number, but a heck of a static skew considering the total population.

    Hi Mike,
Every year around this time I've been working up the pop numbers for all the MPL's from PCGS, NGC & ANACS. I should have it finalized in a couple of weeks, but the 1.728% I show is based on a current total of 4,919 coins certified. Last year the total was 4,792 so that means in the past year (March to March) the three grading services graded a total of 127 MPL's. Unfortunately, I have not attempted to figure out how many of the 4,919 coins are currently in the PCGS and NGC Set Registries. That might be a futile exersize since the same MPL could be in more than one Set Registry group.

You can remove one 1911 64 BRN as I have not mailed back its cert.

I had 4 or 5 crossovers myself thats probably in that total also, along with 1 NGC and 1 SEGS DNC
  • lusterloverlusterlover Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭✭
I would bet the total number is 20% too high if you factor in crackouts/resubs and crossovers. It might even be higher since this is a series where no coin is cheap and significant $ can be made in the right holder. JMHO
  • SteveSteve Posts: 3,312 ✭✭✭
And I have all nine (9) certs from my original slabs which I never returned. Obviously, there are A LOT LESS MPL's in slabs today than the 4,900 + that show up on the pop reports.

The photo in this link for the "3/9/091914 NGC PR 65 RED Forum Member Stockford $4000 Richmond Collection" is apparently the same coin that belonged to Stewart Blay and sold for $126,500.00 on April 6th, 2008? (which of course was a PCGS 1914 MS68RD!). I'm assuming this is a mistake.

This '14 obverse picture WAS put up by the seller. You can see it on the BST board. He posts a blurry small picture of the slab then posts a close up of a different coin. Shouldn't he be reported. I'll stand corrected but I smell slime. Has anyone bought from him before?

    SLIME.

  • It's either one of two things: 1) a misrepresentation or 2) mistake. I think the seller should clarify.

Hopefully, no one actually bought the coin based on just the obverse Blay/Wright photo, but as is pointed out, the 'slabbed' Richmond photo is blurry and based on just that photo alone, I cannot even see the coin.
