1959 Topps Yankees, gray backs & Venezuelans

I have listed more auctions today plus some BIN's. The entrees this evening are 1959 Topps Yankees cards plus three cards in gray backs from the 3rd series #199-#286. The gray backs are tougher. I also have 7 1959 and 1960 Venezuelan Topps cards in BIN. Please check them out. Thanks!

what's the scoop with Venezuelans if you can briefly summarize it for me?

Hey John, it is great to hear from you.

Topps produced some cards in Venezuela and sold them there starting in 1959. They also did 1960, 1962, 1964, etc up to the later part of the decade. The first ones, 1959, are the toughest by far. In 1959, the whole set was the cards from the first two series. In the first series, the cards either have gray backs or cream colored backs, not the white that you see for the ones your Dad and I bought as kids in the US. Also, many of the backs have the trademark that they were produced in Venezuela, not the usual Topps trademark. There are also some that have the usual Topps trademark. The quality of the card stock was inferior and all Venie cards found are in very low condition. A PSA 4 or 5 in a Venezuelan card is considered high grade. The color is usually faded and there is no gloss or very little gloss on the cards.

In 1960, all the first series cards are in gray backs whereas in the US, they were white backs. Again, the whole Venie set is the first two series.
