"Now batting, #7 sponsored by Best Buy, Ivan Rodriguez." It's not exactly how it went down during the opening day of the World Baseball Classic, but Best Buy patches were rather auspicious on the sleeves of the uniforms of the Puerto Rican team in their game against Panama.

Corporate sponsorship has taken over the game. Almost all stadiums are named for companies.
Stats and even entire broadcasts are sponsored. Even if the game doesn't need the money,
greed is too powerful a motivator.

Baseball has already been down that road, but Selig was overruled by the balance of ownership... The one thing you'll never see is the Yankees vote for any sort of sponsorship on their uniform. You may see the Addidas stripes around the stadium or billboards, but that uniform is sacred!

If they started putting advertisements on jerseys would they still make us pay $100 for one? Seems like the advertisers should pay us to wear their commercials on our backs.
