Opinions on a 1909VDB Lincoln Cent?

Hey All-

What do you think of this 1909VDB that I bought at a very reasonable price from Ray Hinkelman at http://www.eyeappealingcoins.com/?

For those of you who do not know Ray, he specializes in colorfully-toned coins of all denominations. Ray is a very good guy, and deserves a good word on the boards.

Great looking to me, but I have to ask, Did PCGS slab it with the rev rim nick?

  • Yes they did, but the coin is graded as a 64 -- PCGS would not go better than a 64 on this beautiful coin. IMHO, this coin might grade as a 66 without the rim marks, as it has great color and a nice strike. So actually, this coin did get me thinking about how rim nicks are used by PCGS in the grading process from another string. Nice catch.

That's nice looking even without the colors. Those rims look pretty squared off to me (with the exception of the nick), you'd better check the diagnostics Duane.image
