Back in May 2008, ESPN reported that minor league pitcher John Odom was traded for ten (10) maple bats. A funny story at the time. But now it is being reported that Mr. Odom died of a drug overdose. Definitely not a funny story. Very tragic.

No, not a very funny story. This I agree. That said, I don't feel sorry for this loser one bit. I don't care how friggin' depressed you are. You mess with drugs, you pay the price. Also, according to the first article, this guy had a rap sheet to begin with. Another case of squandered opportunity if you ask me.
Wow, that's harsh...this is not a pro ballplayer or even a minor leaguer with a shot at making the majors that we're talking about here...this was a small town kid who just couldn't mentally handle what was going on in his head, and I suppose being the constant butt of jokes didn't help either. How about a little compassion for the guy? Jeez..
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

This is kind of an interesting reply, if only because it's possibly the most pedestrian response a person could make to this story.
Sure, it was unfair that he was humiliated like that, but no one force that blow up this nose (or whatever he took). As far as I'm concerned, if he's stupid enough to do this to himself, then I'm glad he's no longer around to polute the gene pool.
I apologize if I seem harsh, but I've dealt with this type of behavior at a personal level and it sickens me that anyone can squander away his youth like this. This is regardless whether he would have made it to the majors or not. We all have the freedom to do what we want, but we have to take personal responsibility here. I would not expect anyone to feel sorry for me if I made a stupid mistake and fall on my face.

<< <i>I have a low tolerance to anyone who messes with drugs/alcohol and does harm to themselves because of it. There can be no sympathy for that. For his family (or victims in cases of drunk driving), Yes. They deserve all the compassion and support in the world. For him, absolutely not.

Wow, you are way over the top and totally wrong. Lets send his family and friends our prayers during these tough times and pray that our Lord lifts him to his eternal salvation and leave the judging to God.
Yes it does not seem right when someone makes it to professional sports or celeb status with a chance to make millions and somehow dies too young, but who are we to judge him. We don't know all of the facts.
I'm sure you are a fine person, I just totally disagree with your thoughts on this subject.

Wow, that's one closed-minded perspective.
