1979 Canadian Cent Doubling

With a snowy day on tap here in New England and the wife and son napping, I finally have had a chance to scan an image of this coin. It's a 1979 Canadian cent with quite a bit of doubling going on around the date and desginer's initials. I did a search of the archives and found an old thread from 2006 asking about a similar coin, but the pictures had been removed due to it being so old. I figure it is mechanical doubling, but since I found the coin on the ground a few months back and don't know much about Canadian cents I figured I'd post it since it is inetresting if nothing else! Anyone know anything about doubling for this date?

It looks like mechanical doubling to me.

Interesting post as I have always been fuzzy on mechanical vs true doubled die.

I googled and this definition popped up:

"The doubling comes from mistakes in the die hubbing process,
where more than one image is transferred from the hub to the coin die. "

I don't think I ever really understood that a true doubled die coin was struck on a die that actually had more
    than one image on it...image
