When it rains it pours. I have not really been looking for new non-sport sets to buy but sometimes sets just find you. So far this year I had bought three complete non-sport sets with each card PSA 8 or better. Now a fourth comes that grade wise is the best of them all--1956 Jibco Tea Screen Stars, 2nd Series.
This set comes from non-sports collector Cal Rosen who has assembled a staggering set. Of the 25 cards in the set there are 10 PSA 10s, 14 PSA 9s and 1 PSA 8 for a 9.36 set rating. Moreover, each card is the highest graded. Notable cards are Debbie Reynolds(PSA 10), Vic Damone(psa 10) and Cyd Charise(PSA 9). The set obviously ranks 1st on the PSA Set Registry.
In the non-sports area, I particularly like the movie star cards and at less than $20 a card for a set of this quality, I couldn't resist. I had previously bought my 1962 ABC Colorstars and 1955 Barbers Tea sets from Cal.
The goal remains 100 vintage or semi-vintage sets in PSA 8 or better with 10% being non-sports. The way things are progressing, it may end up being above that. I appreciate the help of all collectors and dealers in helping me achieve my goal.

I just sent this card in to PSA (edit: via "gumbyfan's group rip"!).
What a beautiful set! 115 cards subbed, with 19 PSA 9s & no PSA 10s yet. Maybe mine will be the first 10?

February special is (ending today) 1955 and backwards.

I sent it to Craig (via a 66 card submission: The gumbyfan "group rip"), I didn't mean to say "February special". This was better!
only $5 per card thru gumbyfan's "group rip"!

You're really close on the late 60's football sets. Once you get the handful of cards there, you'll be near 85.
I had no idea there were so many non-sports cards existed.
And RD, your description is accurate....
Joe
Some of these 60s football sets are tough!
For 1966 Topps I have needed just the checklist for some time.
For 1968 Mackey, Pitts and Grabowski, for 1964 Topps Stover, Flores, Powell and Mix, for 64 Kahn Clendan Thomas and I think I need just 1 69 Tresler Comet card.
RD,
I don't have any 1926 W#512s but I do have 22 24 Ardaths. It IS a beautiful set.
Its incredible how many movie star sets there are from that era.
Thanks--working on number 80 now.
Jim
Always a pleasure to deal with, good luck in your quest.
What PSA8's do you need in your Civil War News set? I have some dups. there - send me a PM if you are interested.
