Novice Question re: Lincoln commemorative coin

The Mint website has proof coins for $37.95 and uncirculated coins for $31.95. I am considering buying this coin for my kids. From a collecting standpoint, is the proof more desirable than the uncirculated, or do collectors actually prefer the uncirculated coin for some reason?

Also, what is the general consensus on commemorative coins such as this? Worth collecting?

Thanks in advance..

Worth collecting for what reason? To put your kids through college? No, don't think so.
Worth collecting for fun? Yup, do think so.

Now, you guess is as good as anybody's which will be more sought after, proof or uncirculated.
Just get some of each for investment purposes or fun.

    Good luck,

  • I think it's worth collecting for fun, though the investment potential isn't too high I don't think.

But hey, it's Abe's 200th birthday... why not get the commemorative? I'd go proofs if you are thinking of something for your kids... they are much more attractive and appealing to a non-collector (usually), and have a better chance of reeling them in (IMO).
