I can't remember saying to myself, "Self, let's collect Ike dollars!" and yet ...

... I seem to be falling in love with the things. What's up with that?

I got one in change at a coin show a month ago and it's been in my pocket ever since.
The series is growing on me.
I definitely would like to find a few nice examples for my collection. Toned and otherwise.

Why...because they are cool coins, particularly when they have neat color or are high grade.

Always buying and selling these puppies!!!

  • Same experience here, too. image While taking inventory of the US/World set I acquired from my grandfather, I set out to "finish" his date/mm Ike set by adding "the other 2" of the 3 1972 reverse types... then after finding the Ike Group... I found there are many more Ike varieties to be found! Two years later and I spend 90% of my collecting time looking at Ikes.

I guess I just took to them also. My priorities:

    1793 - 1964 Type Set
1859 Mint Set with Gold (Why I do not know)
    MS Ikes
MS Ike Errors (I have clips, off centers, and mis-aligned dies....)

Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • Your a victim!!

    I like Ike

Dang man I think they have people to help with that.

Bayard's post reminded me of these.

My collection exceeds the wildest dreams of my childhood. When I was a kid, I don't think these coins had started looking like this. They just looked like big, annoying pocket change.

  • Hello,

I posted here about an impulse purchase of $300 Ikes from the bank yesterday. After pulling a couple of the nicer ones and looking for varieties I realize I have almost 80 of the Ikes sitting around in my accumulation.

not as nice as the ones you posted pictures of but still a collection of them.

Oh well, I enjoyed looking through them and learned a little.

    Cheers
Some call it an accumulation not a collection

I'm the same way. I never paid much attention to them until a few years ago. They have sparked my interst a little since and I've picked up a few nice ones from some shows.

it really is an oddly compelling series... I started off with a couple that came out of mint sets.. I put them in an album when I split the sets for the other issues... then... they started looking pretty good in that album....

  • Ike dollars are a special series in my opinion.
Too bad they span such an abreviated time period.

I collect all 20th century series except gold including those series that ended there.
