I got one in change at a coin show a month ago and it's been in my pocket ever since. The series is growing on me. I definitely would like to find a few nice examples for my collection. Toned and otherwise.

Same experience here, too. While taking inventory of the US/World set I acquired from my grandfather, I set out to "finish" his date/mm Ike set by adding "the other 2" of the 3 1972 reverse types... then after finding the Ike Group... I found there are many more Ike varieties to be found! Two years later and I spend 90% of my collecting time looking at Ikes.
My collection exceeds the wildest dreams of my childhood. When I was a kid, I don't think these coins had started looking like this. They just looked like big, annoying pocket change.
I posted here about an impulse purchase of $300 Ikes from the bank yesterday. After pulling a couple of the nicer ones and looking for varieties I realize I have almost 80 of the Ikes sitting around in my accumulation.
not as nice as the ones you posted pictures of but still a collection of them.
Oh well, I enjoyed looking through them and learned a little.
I'm the same way. I never paid much attention to them until a few years ago. They have sparked my interst a little since and I've picked up a few nice ones from some shows.
they are nice in a plain sort of way....I always like big coins....
Matt, get any new ones lately?
Family, kids, coins, sports (playing not watching), jet skiing, wakeboarding, Big Air....no one ever got hurt in the air....its the sudden stop that hurts. I hate Hurricane Sandy. I hate FEMA and i hate the blasted insurance companies.
it really is an oddly compelling series... I started off with a couple that came out of mint sets.. I put them in an album when I split the sets for the other issues... then... they started looking pretty good in that album....

Too bad they span such an abreviated time period.

I collect all 20th century series except gold including those series that ended there.
