Do dealers ever help other dealers when trying to determine the populations of a particular coin?

I was taking a look at a dealer's website. Let's call him Dealer A. In the description for a coin, he stated the following, "I don’t know of a single Gem example and the best that I am aware of is the PCGS MS64 in the Legend Collection."

Suppose that the coin series in question is one in which Dealer A knows is being handled by Dealer B, particularly if Dealer B is the main source of the Legend Collection. Dealer A wants to know whether Dealer B knows of any coins that are graded higher (simply because sometimes the population reports are questionable).

How often does Dealer B offer assistance to Dealer A, and disclose Dealer B's knowledge of the true population of a particular coin series?

All I can say is that it is not nice to call the owner of that coin Dealer A. image

Wouldn't it be easier for Dealer A to consult the pop reports?

If Dealer A is regarded by Dealer B as being excessively prominent then my guess is there is little chance of any meaningful help being offered.

Most dealers will share information about populations with like minded individuals.

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
