If baseball & football had a Mount Rushmore, who should be the four faces on each mountain.
Basketball & hockey fans can feel free to chime in on those sports as well.

Football- Tom Brady, Jim Brown, Jerry Rice, Johnny Unitas
Edit: What the heck....
Basketball- Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, Michael Jordan
Hocky- Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemiuex?, Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr
I think Cy Young would have to replace Teddy Ballgame or Wilile Mays.
Walter Payton replaces Tom Brady. I feel like a defensive guy has to replace Jim Brown, but can't think of one right now.
Patrick Roy should replace Lemieux.
Hockey- Orr, Howe, Gretzky, Lemieux

Basketball: Olajuwon, Drexler, Horry, Kenny Smith (with honorable mention to Cassel)

Hey now! To ET's credit, he did tap Madonna when she was just a tad past her prime.
For real??...never heard that one.

Fresh from his Madison Square Garden exploits, the Rockets' egg-headed shootist got collected by the omnivorous Herself, who accompanied him to a Rangers' hockey game and the nightspot Rouge -- not wearing her John Starks Knicks' jersey. >>

We can call it Mount Rush and use Roger Clemens, Mark McGuire, A-Roid, Barry Bonds
American Pro Sports- Gretzky, Ruth, Jordan, Jim Brown
Nobody can argue with the first three, the football "head" is certainly debatable......Unitas, Payton, Sayers, Brown, Thorpe, Rice (and probably a few more I'm missing) all deserve consideration.

There are a lot of ways to measure an athlete's greatness. But however you want to measure it, I think Kareem has got them all-nailed down, to wit:
Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (May 15, 1995)
COLLEGE
Player of the Year (1967, 1969)
Three-time First Team All-American (1967-69)
Three-time NCAA champion (1967, 1968, 1969)
Most Outstanding Player in NCAA Tournament (1967, 1968, 1969)
Naismith College Player of the Year (1969)
National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame (2007)
NBA
Rookie of the Year (1970)
Six-time NBA champion (1971, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988)
Most Valuable Player (1971, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980)
Sporting News NBA MVP (1971, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980)
Finals Most Valuable Player (1971, 1985)
All-time leading scorer in NBA history
So why the lack of love? And to be honest, I wouldn't select Kareem either. I'd easily take Jordan, Magic, Wilt and Russell. (And MY explanation? Nothing but a lame one that I just don't see him as a great/transcendent player.)

Kareem did it all...but I can't put him as far back a #8 all time. I believe in his entire college carear he lost only 2 games...and was part of the streak of 87 ? consecutive games won at ucla. A recond that will probably stand forever.
I think he was undefeated in his senior year in High school and a national champion as well.
Now he would have scored on anyone.....but I think Kareem wouldn't be able to stop chamberlain and would have 1/2 the points if he were up against russell. The two were clearly better. But Kareem is one of the top 10 players of all time.

I think you have it backwards. Russell wouldn't stop Kareem because he would actually have to play against a skilled player over 7 feet tall, unlike the midgets he played against routinely.
I don't think Kareem would stop Chamberlain but in basketball you can't just stop the top offensive player(they will get their share), but he played fine against him, and Chamberlain certainly could not stop Kareem.
I would be more comfortable having Kareem on my team knowing that he was skilled offensive player at over 7 feet who got tested and proved he could do it against other skilled seven footers...unlike Russell and Chamberlain whose exploits were done mostly against inferior sized and talented guys.
