Planchet or Flan?

What is the difference? It seems like the same thing. Copper people say flan, and everyone else says planchet. Right?

I don't think I've ever heard a planchet called a flan.

A planchet is a flat blank used for modern coins.

A flan is a disc of metal used to make into a hand struck coin like ancient coins.

I prefer the term Planchet and reserve Flan for dessert ...
