Riddle me this camera buffs

What is the least expensive camera that allows great close up coin pics. Oh sure show those pics off...cheapest camera wins (with great pics of course). Thanks all.

    Probably Russ's old Sony Cybershot.
As for pictures just look for the YumYum's.

  • I use an Olympus FE-340 which I got online for about $120. Pics are seen below. Not sure if you consider them good enough or not. Hope this helps. Not everyone can be a Mark Goodman........LOL.

Any recent Canon Powershot. Runs about $250 at target. Very very easy to use Macro, even for someone who used to stink at taking pics like me.

I think Russ' cheapo $25 eBay special will win...

I have to say, I tried using the Nikon coolpix, but returned it. It is difficult to use, and pics dont always come out clear. What I like about the Canon is the easy digital macro option, the white balance, and how amazing the focus is in Macro version. Additionally, its anti-shake is so good that all of the pics I have taken were without a tripod!

    That's a Sony. I thought Russ uses a Nikon.

  • AnkurJ your close up of the date is very impressive along with the coin pics of course. I think this camera will shoot even half dimes well.

New or used? You can probably buy many-a-camera made in 2002-3 that are in the 3-4 megapixel range and allow close focusing for under $35 that would allow someone to take better pictures than Heritage does. (I don't want to use eBay pictures as a quality benchmark.)

Here is an image of a toned trime I took under sunlight. Not a half dime, but a fairly small coin.

Here is the exact Camera I am using:

    Canon Powershot SD1100

But I am sure other Powershot's would be comparable.

Cannon Powershot A560 7.1MP. I'm sure these are in the $120-140 range now. Has a pretty good Macro.

    AnkurJ,
Great pics. I just bought a Powershot SX110 IS. Can you give me a clue about settings to get close to the quality of your pics. I've ordered Mark Goodman's book, not here yet, but I would appreciate any tips in the meantime. Please PM me if you like.

I had a great run with my Nikon Coolpix 4500 when I was using it... superb macro, great white balance settings (allowed for custom), and overall just great results. Now it's collecting dust (well, the box it's in is) on a shelf...
