Has Anyone Here Ever Met (Or Have An Autograph Of) The King, Richard Petty?

I'm not a NASCAR fan, but I have the utmost respect for the King, Richard Petty. Has anyone here ever met him? If so, what is he like? Does the King have any certified autograph cards? Thanks.

Met him when I was 9 or 10 years old at a race in Rockingham, NC. Nice guy. Always has a crowd around him wanting him to sign stuff. He did sign a Race Program for me. I think I have an 8 x 10 around here somewhere signed by him, Kyle Petty, and John Andretti, as well. He has a good many certified auto cards, Press Pass, Traks, Sports Legends, SP, etc.

I have met and have several of Petty's autos. I used to worked security from '93 to '96 for a firm that contracted with Nascar. We did the tracks at Bristol, Daytona, Talladega, Atlanta and Charlotte. Mr. Petty even allowed us to stay in his motor home one year in Atlanta when a snow storm came thru during the weekend of the March race. If I can find the autos I will post some.

  • I met him through radio work. After helping him out with some business things I got a lugnut from his car and a couple of signed cards.

    Pretty sweet.
  • The closest I've come to anything involved with any type of racing (sorry it's not NASCAR) is working with Don the Snake Prudhomme's neice at Security Pacific in Brea. She used to bring a bunch of signed stuff for us that included a bunch of other racers. I have them boxed up somewhere at the other house. I should go down and dig up that box.

I do have some from NHRA though--my two favorite autos are the Snake and the Mongoose for those that remember.
  • I do a bunch of business with Nascar and have all access at any and all Nascar races that I attend, and see Petty at almost every race. We talk from time to time, and everytime I see him he is signing an autograph for some fan. He is a true ambassador for Nascar. What he and his family do for sick children with the Victory Junction Gang is an amazing thing in itself.

I met Richard Petty quite a few times back in my racing days. I always thought Richard was very friendly and great with his fans, but I wasn't into autographs back then. image

I see a few guys mention Don "The Snake" Prudhomme. He was my favorite racers back when he was racing and I lived right down the street from his house and was lucky enough to hang out at his house a few times (my best friends sister was best friends with Don's daughter)...He was another very nice guy. I haven't met too many professional sports/athletes but I have the most respect for the professional drag racers and Nascar racers I met during my racing days. For the most part racers are down to earth and understand its the fans are very important to their careers.

  • I met Petty at a fan club gathering near Michigan Speedway around 1992. I was only about 9 at the time, but I still remember him being extremely friendly. He signed 3 cards and took the time to pose for a picture. Great experience.

I met him once he was very nice. It was in the infield of the Charlotte motor Speedway. He was puttering around on a moped. He even stopped to take a picture with one of us. It was a funny site to see the King on a moped. He has a 1998 Upper Deck Mark of a Legend card that is certified. Another sweet card is a 1992 Traks dual signed with Dale Earnhardt card. His first card (Rookie) is a 1972 STP card.
