Basically, wheretheyaint is trying to drop-ship cards. Not quite "evil", as he's not stealing anything, but not totally above board as he doesn't disclose this business model to the customer.
A while back I visited their site and inquired about a few cards, and Ben emailed me back saying that he couldn't find cards to sell me at the price listed on his site anymore, but would let me know if he found anything else. I figured at that point that he's running a "finder" service for cards.
I've only bought one card from them in the past. Got the card quickly at below market value prices for a nice looking, hard to find PSA graded card. I was very pleased but in general I find their prices to be unreasonable.

There were a few threads here and on net54 about him a few months ago. He used to photoshop out the cert #'s and if you asked for a cert #, he would send you the # from one that was currently listed on eBay.
I found this thread as I was going to ask the forum if anyone knows this company or has purchased anything? If you have any information to share, I would appreciate it. Thx

I just got an email from John@WhereTheyAint on Wednesday, but don't believe I've ever done business with them. No idea how they got my email or why they don't provide an unsubscribe option.
About the 2009 thread, Bottom of the Ninth (Greg Schwartz) is as reputable and honest as they come, so I take him at his word on this issue. Also, I believe Where They Ain't must have gotten reinstated on eBay as I recall their offerings recently.
I get their spam but I don't respond. I used to broker product from time-to-time but I did it the right way. I didn't promise to sell a specific specimen and I didn't take payment until I obtained the item they were looking for. If a buyer wanted a 1972 football high number wax box, I'd ask what their buy price was. I'd then go out and locate one (back in the days when unopened was more availabe) for a price that would allow me to get a cut. I'd buy the product and then contact the buyer to complete the transaction. Listing an item you don't own in auction or promising a specific graded card example that you don't own and have no agreement from the owner to acquire is not the way to broker deals. I'm not saying this dealer is doing this but I'm just stating this as my general ethical position on brokering.
Thx for all the replies. I'm not jumping to any conclusions yet, but I'm starting to feel a little uneasy...I'll share my story only if it goes south...or I'll say I had a successful transaction. Just have to be so incredibly careful these days, as I continue to learn.

I've never bought from them and never tracked their items, so I can't say personally. I also don't want to get into trouble with the mod making accusations, substantiated or not.

Isn't that exactly what they do?
