I live in Columbia, and I agree.

Sheriff Lott is a great big Hero bar lookalike from the toilet bowl.

Believe me he has tons of other, larger, issues to deal with. He's just doing this to boost his own ego.

College kids partying?
Excesive alchohol.
Hot college babes.

Having fun!
Totally unheard of! My goodness!

I would understand if they were dealing, growing, or had prior records.
It also highlights how shameful newspapers have become today, no sales or distribution channels creates really lame headlines...

I too, have never partaken in the herb, nor do I like it when people do it around me, but this whole deal is ridiculous. Give the guy a break for crying out loud. Just because he's big, and he swims like a fish, it doesn't make him THE Big Fish!
i just don't like the way local yokel police are trying to do their mcgruff crime dog impersonation, when it's so unnecessary.

Great job SC police! Just think of the thousands of hours that police and the SA office will spend to convict a handful of college students for simple marajuana possession!
With the economy in tatters and states warning they may have to slash police payroll - it seems sensible to me the states could ignore simple possession misdemeanors and be able to slash 20%+ of their police force. Would this country be any worse off?

Another embarrassment for the State of South Carolina. Here in the Charleston area we are generally trying disclaim any association with the rest of the state and vice versa (prime example here), but I did live in Columbia for five years and this is very surprising.
For one thing the local police sure don't put this effort in when Steve Spurrier's players get caught with pot much less building a federal case based on a photo.
This is shameful headline grabbing.
Columbia is a decent place with great people and fairly tolerant attitudes being a college town, this defintly sends the wrong message.

No money in that, and a bit more dangerous.
only way they get a single conviction out of that is if some kid is dumb enough to enter a guilty plea.
let's hope he never browses MySpace for those college kids.

No one was charged in the "bong incident."
Those arrested were charged with "possession" of marijuana;
tiny quantities were seized.
The great feat of law-enforcement was accomplished by TWELVE
jack-booted psychos waving guns at the law breakers.
........
It appears that FOUR folks were arrested at the bong-house. And,
four folks were nabbed at the house rented by a former renter at
the bong-house. (That guy moved out; sad for his NEW roommate
and two chix, who had no connection to the bong-house, but were
caught in the dragnet anyway.)
..........
As long as it is more profitable to maintain two groups of criminals - dope
dealers and drug-war fighters - than it is to change the law, there will be
no relief.
Meantime, confidence in the law and respect for LE will continue to dwindle.
......
DISCLAIMER: I have never used any illegal drugs, and I hope other
folks don't either if they are going to drive their cars into me while
they are stoned.
He's obviously going to be after another more high profile job in the future.
Commisioner maybe???
He sure reminds me of Two Face.
EDIT: storm, I promise to only drive into you when I'm completely sober.

That is one of the problems, in my opinion, the less important...it is not profitable. It is a complete waste of money that few agree with.
"DISCLAIMER: I have never used any illegal drugs, and I hope other

I think you should much more concerned with cell phones and alcohol being the cause of someone driving into you.
