It's silver, it's one ounce and it's really got some color and I paid $12 for it. The scratches are on the holder not the coin. It must be the green paper in the holder that's toning it.
I found as website about it that says,
<< <i>IRELAND ST. PATRICK SILVER ROUND.
CONTAINS 1 FULL TROY OUNCE OF SILVER!
You'll have difficulty finding these anywhere else!
Irish silver at .999 purity is extremely difficult to source and commands a high premium. This round has a complex design. On the obverse is an image of St. Patrick with a Celtic cross in the background, whilst the reverse shows a detailed design of Muckross Abbey. This round was issued in 1975 by the Hamilton Mint and is boxed and accompanied by a certificate of purity. >>

What Mr. Spock would say about numismatics...
... "Fascinating, but not logical"
"Live long and prosper"

That is a pretty cool piece. I like how it names the engraver, H. Alvin Sharpe.
Thanks for sharing!
I knew it would happen.
