Whew! I finally got the Mantle card/auto montage.

I wasn't sure if it was going to finally work out, because the seller stopped responding to me for a week(his computer went down). Today I met him and purchased it. I was going to take the autographed picture out and have it authenticated, but after the overwhelming assuredness from various board members as to it's authenticity, and the fact that it is beautifully framed and secured on the back, I will just leave it as is.

    Michael,

JSA and PSA/DNA would probably authenticate it through the glass if you took it to them in person at a show. There are some items that are hard to tell through glass, but I think on a Mantle that they could clearly see what they need to see. Most of the time, they tell you they won't authenticate items that are still framed, but that's mainly because they don't want to have to deal with the risk of having the glass break in shipping and destroying a piece, either in transit to them or from them. Framed items are generally a pain in the rear to pack and ship and they don't want to be in the packing/shipping business. I believe, that's typically the reason they don't like to do framed items, not because they can't tell.

Also, I take frame jobs apart all the time to get a better look at the item, it's easy, just tear the paper off the back, pry up the tabs that hold it all together and then remove what you want and leave everything else there. It's super easy to put it back together and almost all of your local frame shops will charge you only $10-$20 for putting on a new backing for you once you get it back. Don't let that deter you from taking it out if you wanted.
