I recently acquired this Byzantine Justinian coin.
I created these pictures using an Olympus digital camera and an HP scanner.
The images are quite different for the same coin.

Even with a camera though those old dark bits are hard to capture.
Funny thing is, after years of suffering through ebay I think I've learned how to properly interpret a scanned pic, a sort of "scanner vision".
