FOR YOU, What The Most Important Thing In Sports?

For you, what's the most important things in sports? For me, I think there are two (2) obvious choices, to wit:

1. "My" team winning; or
2. Being entertained.

And I'll be honest, on any given day, I could go with either one. In other words, there are times where I would rather be entertained than to see my team win.

Tonight was a pretty good example. In the Lakers-Knicks game, Kobe scored 61 points. Later on, my favorite team (the Spurs), will be playing the Warriors. The Spurs will probably win. But at the same time, it'll probably be a boring game (like most NBA games).

If he wanted, I "know" Kobe could average 50 points a game for the entire season and I would probably watch as many games as possible. I think I would rather see that, than to see the Spurs "bore" themselves to another championship, which if they do win it this year, this is exactly what they are doing ... and have done so each time they have won.

P.S. I'm a Laker hater too.

My team winning, my favorite players doing well (like Russell Westbrook lighting it up yesterday, even though against my King's, was great), and a great finish. If I am going to the game I am hoping for something great to happen (no-hitter, high scoring night for a player, lots of yards rushing/passing, etc....). Like the UCLA comeback against Gonzaga in the NCAA tourney a few years ago... and I left 5 minutes early and missed the whole darn thing. Dang that sucked.

    As the saying goes:

    Winning isn't everything...

    It's the only thing!

    Hi Jon,

    You mean this one?

    UCLA v. Gonzaga

That's okay. If you had stayed, "my" Bruins would have lost. So I'm glad you left early.

The most important thing for me is bringing the right batteries to the stadium to throw at the opposing players. The smaller AAA size batteries can be thrown further but lack the stopping power of the A size batteries. Usually I choose the AA size batteries as a good combination of size and distance.
  • I just love the games, so I guess that goes into having fun. Winning is great but I just love to watch "my" teams play and take it all in. Winning is an added bonus. I think the teams in my sig line pretty much show that I value enjoyment/regional loyalty over just winning image

  • I'm not a ballgame fan but do enjoy watching Formula 1 racing so:

    1. An exciting Formula 1 race (entertainment) with some rain if possible (drama).

    2. Kimi Raikkonen crashing out or finishing 9th or lower.*

    3. Ferrari finishing outside the top 5.* (I like Felipe Massa and won't begrudge him a few points per race.)

*I don't have a favorite F1 team or driver so "my team winning" isn't as important as seeing the red cars do poorly.

At least as far as baseball goes, neither my team winning or being entertained is most important for me, although both are great bonuses. My relationship with baseball is just that: a relationship. I'm content during those days when it's pretty quiet and nothing exciting is going on. But I'm also thrilled when new things take place or when my team goes on a winning streak. I enjoy the day in and day out of baseball, the quiet accumulation of experiences and memories, and the way those memories and experiences stack on top of each other until you feel like you are part of the tradition and the game is a part of you.

    Red Sox- Winning
    Pats-Winning

Baseball / Football in general- I love the Fantasy side of it and to me that is most enjoyable with Baseball but Football I love watching it anytime and love the Fantasy side to it as well.

My team winning by 4 scores when no one gave them a chance! I don't like to win by last second field goals from 63 yards, or have to rely on
the zebras like so many teams do, I like my team to show up and take the other team to the shed.
