Heritage Long Beach auction

I must admit I was shocked at the price realized($17,250 with Buyers Premium) for the 1936 PR66 CAM Lincoln.imageimageI just wondered if David Hall bought it for a client or to sell on his site?imageWhat are you're thoughts.

  • Hmmm... Maybe he is waiting on the weighing to way in! Depending on the ranking it may go fast for a registry holder.

  • I am surprised at some of the prices that Joe LaBute got for his Lincolns. I wish that I hadf been as lucky when I sold my collection at the October 2001 Long Beach Sale.

A MS66RD 1909-s VDB bringing over $7000. Whow!! Although this was not Joe's coin.

Look at Joe's 1920-P and some of the early 1950's in MS67RD.

It appears that the Long Beach is going great guns.

Wow is right! Lincolns are getting scarey...

I bid on five of Joe's 1950s MS67s. A couple of them was the typical deal, somebody just topping my high bid. On the other three, though, I was low by $250-$350!!

  • Did any non-attendees follow the "live auction" on the ebay website last night and this afternoon. It was fast and furious and I'm still having difficulty believing some of the prices. I'm concluding that there are a lot of new entrants with lots of dough and they just want to complete sets of decent but not necessarily highest quality coins and convenience is a greater priority than price. I still don't believe some of the prices I saw last night. Everything can't be going for 4 figures or more.
  • ebay was horrible. Looking at an item automatically forwarded you
to a site (possible where picture were hosted) that didn't exist.

So you couldn't stop on the page.

I tried to check it out (a bit late) but instead of saying the
auction was over it said negative 1 hour to go.

At least that's what I got using Netscape.

The prices I saw on a couple of lots were outrageous! As you said, somewhat average coins going for unbelievable prices. It is getting to the point where the only hope I have of getting any new coins is going through my pockets for state quarters!

  • as ive told some before, I maxed out 7 credit cards in 99-2000 just buying anything that caught my eye 66 and up...also alot of proofs. Half the stuff in the pcgs boxes I dont even remeber what they contain. I can tell you this, with this going on im digging all of it out.....

  • for those worried:

a home equity loan killed those cards.

I finally went back and researched the 1936 PR66 Type 2 Lincoln. The coin sold in the Teletrade auction of 12/02/01.The price was $4,500.It is my belief that,it is indeed the same coin as the one just sold at the Long Beach show.It seems to have been resubmitted for Cameo designation and got it.IMHO!

  • Mertz - I heard comments to this effect at the Thursday night Auction. They were not confirmed but there were dealers there with the opinion that it was the same cent.

Many sat in on the Thursday night auction laughing at the prices and comments to the effect of "Thank PCGS and the Registry" were made by both auctioneers. It was a long night with some big prices realized expecially for the LaButte Set and for anything with a low pop or color. I saw maybe 25% of the items actually get bids from the floor as many of the lots had some pretty heavy bids from the internet prior to hitting the floor.

I really enjoyed my first live coin auction. I recommend everyone do this at least once.

Understand David Hall bought a bunch of those low pop 50's Lincolns for really high bucks. Guess he's got a sense for the way this Registry business is going!
