1917 Canadian Half (Warning LARGE PIC - Trying to keep the Tumbleweeds away!)

I got this coin in a lot I won off ebay for about 15 bucks total. Had some old 1912, 1920's dimes, and some other stuff. However, this one was not pictured in the auction and I thought the seller had sent it by mistake. I contacted the seller and he advised that what I had bought was the last of his Canadian stuff so he threw this one in just to get rid of it.... MIGHTY nice of him.... I NEVER expected to get this nice of an older Half for less than 15 bucks... Any thoughts on a grade...yes I know it's hard to grade from pictures... When I looked at Krause and Charlton I noticed there are some big hops in price from EF up to MS-60... It's amazing how much one grade can mean to a coin sometimes! (edited to add... I don't think this coin is in the MS range or the EF range... just making idle chat)

I usually don't get that lucky but this time I did. I was thinking it would be close to a EF but wasn't sure if it would make it...
  • Appears to me to be really grundgy. Is this one of those coins that would be helped by a light cleaning(such as soap and water) or would that destroy the value of the coin to much? Olmanjon

I think that this is going to grade vf 35. It is not quite an xf coin, but definitely on the borderline. JMHO.

Very nice pics!! I am impressed at how quickly you have gotten the hang of taking close to "coin in hand" pics. Keep it up and people will want you to photo there coins!!! -Dan
  • Back in the days of old when silver circulated, I managed to pick 80 Newfoundland halves out of circulation in Maine and New Brunswick. Of course these were all George V, Edward VII and Victoria. Never once did I even ever see a Canadian pre George VI half.

I'm leaving it as is. I have an old Whitman Bookcase album that these coins reside in. It looks PERFECT in that book... the dark blue background goes well with it... Like I said, for 15 bucks I got a total of 5 coins, one of which was this one... can't beat that...
