You have a choice between older AU/BU sovereigns (.2354 oz) in paper flips or proof modern US $5 commems (.24187 oz) in original mint packaging.

Can't mix or match, and these are your only choice. Which and why?

    So very true.

    I agree with both of you.

    I would prefer to own the Sovereigns, but due to the abundance of Sovereign counterfeits, I would choose the US Mint gold coins.

    Agree, the crooks are probably safer in making fake sovs because the gov might react if they were making modern US coins.

    are half sovereigns in au/bu an option?

    Take the US commems.

    If you're in the US, then the demand and potential growth will be higher for the commemoratives. However, if you're in the UK, the reverse applies.

    Some of the $5, and the $10 Olympic from 1984 commems are a great value for buying as bullion.

    Also most of the 1925 sovereigns are restrikes from the 1950's. They were heavily counterfeited in Lebanon and Syria into the 1980's.
