Wheb did SAFLIPs change?

I noticed when handling some coins from an older collection that the SAFLIPs that were used were thicker than those currently being sold. Does anybody know the when and why the SAFLIPs were changed? Are the "older" ones still available?

    The thicker softer ones are the ones with PVC.
    They smell like a pool raft.

    ...........i agree with grumpyed. the older thicker ones were pvc 'shower curtain' plastic.image

    Lane, there are still a few manufacturers of heavy gauge non-vinyl flips. I'll try to track 'em down for you.
