    I'd resub #3 and the last 2.

  • Cert ending in 580 is the one. Any fading on the reverse paperbreak? The others have the red-pink bleeding in the jerseys.

    Nice batch of nolans!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I'd like to see a 10 side by side with a couple of those.

Crack them all and re-submit under the old "if you send 10 PSA 9 Ryans odds are one will be graded a 10..." theory.

what stinks.. is the 580 card.. is the only card.. without back centering.. here is a scan
the dot by the l is not on the card.. must have been on the scanner

This thread is a great reminder why buying those "cheap" '86 boxes is a waste of money. It's very very difficult to get the Ryan in a 10.

  • thanks oaks

Yeah Id love to see it 5050 but should still measure Id bring it onsite or review onsite.

Most of these blow the 2 10 examples Ive seen away. If the 580 ever hits ebay lmk it wont get the 999 bid from me.

Agreed. The rest have either corner touches or chipping on the black section on the sides of the card.

    Good point. ^^

    Oaksey25,

They look accurately graded to me.

You also have to check for slightly jagged edging on the bottom white border. The 86's are very prone to that, and even if it isnt a lot, it will stop a card from being a 10.
  • VitoCo1972VitoCo1972 Posts: 6,135 ✭✭✭
    Don't resub #3 - will never get a 10 with that fisheye.
  • slantycouchslantycouch Posts: 1,704 ✭✭✭
Those grades seem accurate to me. 580's probably the best chance, but with the o/c back I doubt you'll get a 10 back from it.

    Nice cards though!

How much do high end raw 86 Topps Ryans sell for?

More than a PSA 9? or is a PSA 9 still profitable?

  • psa 9 ryan 8-12 bucks sometimes 20
  • OAKESY25OAKESY25 Posts: 4,726 ✭✭✭
I am not saying they are graded wrong.. it was just meant to look at and talk about..
don't get me wrong.. figured maybe on the special though.. it would be worth the $50 to see if I can bump one..

  • Nah 10 the first one and 580 are your only chances imo save the 40
  • BoopottsBoopotts Posts: 6,784 ✭✭
The centering on the back of 580 is fine; I'd probably keep submitting that one over and over.

If you want $20 for it let me know.

I think I remember seeing this in the shared orders section. Didn't one come back Evid of Trim? Can you scan that one?

  • Jeff- Good point lol that was the one! Along with anyone turned 8. Seen that before but we wont go there.
  • Cert ending in 580 is the one.

    Keep resubbing.

Dang, I would think you should have had one 10 in that lot. I guess that's why I have never subbed any 86's. My 9's would be 8's and my 8's would be 7's...It would kill me. lol

Don't waste your money! You want to find a gem Ryan? You must buy some "expensive" '86 boxes! image

    rd

P.S. Didn't Topps issue some early presentation sets in 1986 (...for Topps employees, or key people, etc.)? Maybe 10's are easier to come by from those special sets, if they do/did exist? image

    This one, was under $10

Nice Ryan. Is it impossible to get a 10 on that card or something?
  • Indy78Indy78 Posts: 808 ✭✭✭
I'm not at all familiar with this issue, but with regard to the 580-cert ryan, will that reddish print mark to the right of ryan's shirt collar keep the card from getting a 10 notwithstanding the back centering? The other thing I notice about the 580-cert card is that the orange coloration in "Astros" seems a little on the lighter side. I collect 1975 topps baseball, and I've noticed that if the colors aren't really bright and bold, it's pretty hard to get anything above an 8 no matter how sharp the corners and edges are and how good the centering is. Is this the case with the 86's?

Regardless, those cards all have very nice eye appeal, and the color on the very first one really stands out! Good luck whatever you decide do with them!

Why do I have this feeling that after this rip a PSA 9 Ryan will be hard to sell due to oversupply?

A guy might pull one PSA 9 Ryan out of an entire wax case. My guess is that the pop on that card is safe.

Edit to add: The board's newfound obsession with this card will, hopefully, end shortly. It's probably an $800 card now, with the pop being at six, and a guy would be lucky to pull one out of 75 rack cases. It's time to move on...
