Let me say something about Rick Tomaska and his pricing. Some may think his pricing is expensive.
I purchased a 1950-D Franklin PCGS MS65FBL a while back from him for around $1250.
I looked at the Heritage Coin Website for 1950-D MS65 FBLs in 65's and 66's. There are those 65's you can get for around $300. There are those which cost significantly more. We are not talking about market fluctuations here. Those which cost significantly more look a great deal better in the scans provided by Heritage.
My coin is one of those which belong in the "cost significantly more" category, mainly because of its high quality. Now, I agree his prices may be somewhat high, even for the high quality. However, he also provides a service also, that of searching for the best material in his expertise, which cannot be forgotten. Some people have "the eye," and more power to them for that. But as for me, I like to deal with experts, even though they may cost a little more ...
I guess we will have to begin posting more testimonials from happy clients on our website. They do outnumber the unhappy by a substantial - huge - ratio.
One of the reasons I do not participate regularly on the boards is that it is too time consuming - responding to all this. So this may be my last post on the topic.
We have many clients, most are "small" clients in terms of the dollars they spend, that we take care of - most buy coins for under $100. It could be different if we just catered to clients who only buy the $1,000 - $1,000,000 coins, like some companies cater to, but that was never my interest. There are great, fun, collector-worthy coins in every price range. Again, I buy coins that I like, and just try to explain what it is I like about that coin. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and am not offended when they don't.
When there is an unhappy client I want to hear about it. Sometimes a client does not alway get through to me at the time they would like. But I do try to make a point of getting back to everyone. I know if I want to talk to someone, I am persistent until I get through.
For all the chatboard junkies who want to believe that I treated a former client "poorly", I don't recall anyone ever contacting me to hear my position, or get feedback from us, on a particular client.
And if there were a client or two or three, maybe even.........five or six!!!! that thought they were treated "poorly" for some reason, out of the several thousand we have had the past 25+ years, that is pretty damn good. Not perfect. It would be nice to be perfect of course. But it still is pretty damn good.
Finally, if any of you folks reading this own your own business, you know how impossible it is to please everyone. If you don't or never have owned your own business, I recommend you start one, and find out for yourself, before you cast stones.

I couldn't say any better! Mr.Tomaska is the most expert in his field. To those who value his knowledge,the cost is justifiable.

Does anyone know when Mr. Tomaska's planned book on proof coins from 1858 [I think] forward to the present going to be completed and published?
Is that book currently under production or is it on the back burner until after the Frankie/Kennedy book is published?
