US Mint Shipping Option

Does anyone know why the mint ships through FedEx. It just seems to make sense to ship through the USPS as the government would be directing revenue to another government body. Surely USPS would be cheaper too. Any ideas?

Before they moved their Fulfillment center to Indiana it used to be in Memphis. I believe Memphis is "THE" hub of FedEx. So, since it is the FedEx hub where all parcels are shipped before they get distributed throughout the world it was probably cost-effective for the Mint to use FedEx over the USPS. Now that they are in Indiana, it might not be as cost-effective. Personnaly, I've received Mint products from FedEx, USPS, UPS and DHL. I imagine it depends on where the coins are shipped from that deterimines the best carrier for the U.S. Mint.

They got away from the USPS a few years ago. In the past they used it a ton with special priority mail boxes made to fit multi packs of proof sets, ASEs, etc.
