So let me get this straight? The seller refunds the money in this one instance because he got caught and now he's a good guy? Why would Matt edit anything? The guy still did what he did and may still be doing it.

While the seller first thought LMM might have gotten the card mixed-up with a card from a different source, maybe the seller realized that he himself had confused the source of the card. Once he remembered that he might have bought the card from a potentially unreliable source, he did the responsible thing.
It's like I tell retail-workers, sometimes the only way you can prove you didn't steal money from the drawer is to replace the missing money.
