1916-D Mercury Dime. Real or Fake?

I picked this up to day and it has a slightly bent rim. Since the dent is in the area of the mint mark I am slightly suspicious. Can anyone tell me from this photo if this coin is real or fake? Want to be careful before I resell it.

    I lean more toward genuine. The D is in the right spot and looks like the right shape. The cleaning around the D worries me a bit though. Would need to see it in hand.
    I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.

    why don't you send it in to get graded?

    AG3 at best , but a $450 - $500 coin if it turns out real.

    you will just get a genuine label ,damaged.

    but it will sell on ebay for someone trying to finish a set.

    The coin itself looks perfectly real. However, the mintmark may be in question.

    I think it's real...D looks right. I think there must have been some dirt or something on it and a previous owner cleaned it off.

    Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.

    I agree its AG details for sure. AButI hate to spend $50 on it to get a genuine slab when that would be about all the profit I can make on it. If I can get confident its real I will sell it with a full money back guarantee. But, if its not real I want to take it back to the dealer I bought it from right now! image

    My vote is you have an original coin with cleaning and damage. The cleaning was most likely due to someone making sure the mint mark wasn't glued on. The location and style is one of the four know dies.

    Send it in, at least it will be authenticated before you resell it. You will get a better price for it
    if you do.

    The mint mark looks real to me and would only slab as genuine because of the damage

    Looks real.

    I'd get it in a genuine slab or ANACs slab because you'll get more when selling it. Just like you were questioning it buyers will be doing the same and not being in a slab will keep some of them from bidding. Of course the buyer may crack it for a set.

    It should get a decent price, a lot of sets need that coin.

    I always assume a coin like this is fake until it's authenticated by one of the top tier slabbers.

    Genuine. But almost certain to get a net grade because of the camber. I'd sent it to NCS personally.

    It's definately worth submitting it just to have it authenticated even if damaged.
