While very knowledgeable about Franklins I believe he is a good promoter.
I manage money. I earn money. I save money .
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

I have bought coins from Rick as far back as 20 years ago. Back then he specialized in 1950-date cameo coins. He branched out into mint state Franklins and other coins a number of years ago.

I learned alot from him when I was working on my cameo sets - from his newsletters and his books. My favorite coin that I purchased from him is my 1965 PCGS cameo sms cent - nice deep mirrors and great contrast.

He often has coins that are difficult to find in any other venue. But of course, you will pay for them.

As far as reputation, I think he is very good. But it does bother me that he is on TV with the hucksters.

Seems to be very knowledgeable, carried great inventory, but I always thought at his prices I would be buried in the coin ad infinitum.

I met Rick at a Baltimore show a few years back.

He was very gracious and we spent a good 15 minutes talking Franklins. A few of the coins in my NGC registry set are from him and he's won a couple Franklins from me through Ebay. He seems like a very nice guy.

He's been a tireless dealer and worker for at least about 32 years I believe.

He has an excellent reputation as a retailer.

He, no doubt, does some wholesaling but none of which I'm aware of.

Correct. You will never, ever get anywhere near what you paid him
if you decide to sell. Never! Take the PCGS price guide, which is way high
on Franklins anyway, and multiply by 3. That's his price. At least on Franklins.

Really? I bought a PCGS graded 1965 SMS Kennedy from R&I for $45, and flipped it for $375.

I expected R. Tomaska to defend himself against these accusations .

I have never admired anyone as much as you appear to admire Rick T. Okay, maybe Jack Lambert and Hines Ward, that's it.

Is he even aware of this thread?

  • For those who have watched Art and Coin TV:

    1. I usually appear with Barry Chappell, and we do a question and answer session, geared for new collectors. Barry is an ex-economics professor, who is also a coin collector, who handles my segment as he would a classroom - asking questions that a novice should ask, to learn more about the coins in question.

    2. I hand select nice coins that would be good for a new collector to start with.

    3. Barry handles the pricing, with many coins priced pretty close to "market".

    4. There are many lots I actually sell at a loss.

    5. During my segment the goal is to give as much honest, straightforward information as possible, presented in the same manner as the information in my first three books.

Try to be objective - and not too cynical! There is a lot of good that will come from the show, during the segment I am on it.

    Warmest regards,
    Rick Tomaska
