"That's not haze, that's toning..."

Notlogical and I were at a show in Grand Island, NE this past weekend and we were looking at some clad coins, IKE's, kennedy's, Washington's, and one IKE in particular had noticable haze on IKE's bust. I asked about it and the dealer said, "That's not haze, that's early stages of toning. Just wait a few months and you'll be surprised at the color that shows up." I said, "You're right about that, I would be surprised."

Talking further with this individual, I really think he was convinced it was "toning". He acted like he never heard the term "haze" before. Was "haze", spots, etc. ever referred to as toning?

I've been to Grand Island a few times!

But, it was for skeet shooting competitions, not coin shows.
There were usually enough shows in the Omaha area to satisfy me.


The only place I've ever seen horizontal icicles!
