Top end material is not necessarily expensive.

For some specialty collections major rarities can be had for $25.

You just have to be willing to take the road less traveled. (With apologies to Robert Frost.)

Lots of rare things are cheap, mostly because no one collects them.

But that doesn't mean they won't be more popular in the future.

I think that was somebody else. Frost wrote of the road not taken.

Your point, though, stands. There are some oddball things you can collect where building the nicest collection around does not cost much more than collecting them at all.

There are some really tough tokens for under $100 with many of them priced at $25-$50.

Or that they will be any more popular in the future.

Who knows, popular collectibles that are pricey today might be out of favor in the future, as in, "people really once used those (seashells, beads, stones, coins, currency) to buy things? How queer!"

I was just pulling your leg about $25 rarities.....I agree that it IS possible to find some really nice stuff on the cheap.
At the recent Boeing show I picked up a very pretty rainbow toned 1860 Austrian 1/2 Florian in ANACS MS63 for $20. It has a gorgeous tone with pl fields....and it's 19th century.......a ton of BANG for $20 in my opinion. Is it a rarity? I think so! image
