Without looking it up I would go with the 1970 colts. Unitas at QB had Tom Matte at RB, Ray Perkins and nobody at WR, he had a HOF tight end in John Mackey. Bubba Smith, a young young Ted Hendricks were the HOFers, Mike Curtis was pretty good if I remember right, but I can't really think of any other "stars" on that team.
Perhaps Im missing your point, I guess what you are looking for is what team won it all with a bunch of no namers on offense. Can you really call what Brady had on the o line weak? Sure someone has to catch it, but NE had a solid D line and a solid O line that year. Do you think they even get into the playoffs without that? I don't.
<< <i>well duh, someone has to score the last points. Pats don't get a ring in 2001 without their defense, I think we can agree on that.

Sure but Brady was the MVP- thats not debatable. >>
Actually, the MVP should have went to Vinatieri in that game.
Nah, Brady probably should have won the MVP against the Rams, but you wouldn't have even won the 'Snow Game' if it wasn't for Vinatieri (and Brady in a strange way, I guess). That 2001 Pats team had the least amount of offensive talent ever. Antowain Smith, Troy Brown, etc.
<< <i>Speaking of Brady, what is going on up there. Are they going to keep both Brady and Cassel?
I know a few teams that could use a QB

No doubt about it! I was actually a little nervous about these ( hopefully bogus ) reports about him not being ready next year but knowing how the Patriots operate I should know that there will be conflicting reports about his progress. I love how Cassel is smart enough to tell the press that he would be "content" on being Brady's back up I will give that young man his due! He knows the game..
I just have this feeling that a team that throws a boatload of money to sign cassel will wind up regretting it once he's outside the NE system..

I'd go with 1981 Niners along with the 2001 Pats, very similar teams IMO. Montana & Brady as young QBs winning their first SB w/o a whole lot of big-name players around them on either side of the ball. Only other HOFers on Montana's '81 team were then-rookie Ronnie Lott and DE Fred Dean, who just got in last year and is still a much-debated selection. Brady will have Vinitieri and maybe a Richard Seymour on D. Both with HOF coaches on the sidelines, though. How about "who is the worst coach to win a SB?"
How about Jeff Hostetler? The Giants had an awesome defense back then (just ask Montana) but I imagine their offense was lacking compared to other SB winners. An end of his career Ottis Anderson perhaps the biggest name on the offense?
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
<< <i>maybe Tampa Bay??? awesome d, but I can't even remember who their QB was that year.... >>
Funny stuff- at work today we were trying to remember the QB who started or won 2 Super Bowls with 2 different teams ( Craig Morton ) and I thought Trent Dilfer QB'ed for that YUCS team but it was Brad Johnson.
Have to agree on the '81 Niners. The WR's were solid with Clark and Solomon. But they had nothing at RB. A rather no-name defense too that started three rookies in the def. backfield.
It was also pre Jerry Rice, pre Roger Craig, pre John Taylor, pre Rathman. It was all on Joe Montana.
They beat the dreaded Cowboys with 'The pass' to make it there too which at the time was a huge upset.

I had to look it up Paul. Actually not the worst WR's a team could have.

I agree about the D. I thought you meant talent around "him" on the O side of the ball.

Would have been nice to have some defense in the last 2 minutes in 2008, after what would have been another Brady game-winning drive.
