Pack Rip - 2008 Bowman Sterling

I was at the local card shop today where the owner is a pretty good guy. I was looking for a hobby box in the $60 range that had some guaranteed hits in it (preferably autos). I saw the 2008 Bowman Sterling packs marked at $50 each and after a few questions by me he told me that there were 2 autograph cards and 1 game used card in each 5 card pack. He said if I was interested he'd take $40 for the pack, so I figured I'm getting what I came in for without the wasted base cards, and I'm saving $20+ by not buying a full box. Scans to follow.

    Bowman Sterling is one of those products that you really cant miss on . They resell very well usually

    Greg Smith Autograph. With Bowman products it's always a safe bet that I've never heard of the prospect. If any of you guys know anything about him, let me know.

    Nick, Hang on that card until for the next year or two and see what happens. He was a big prospect for the Diamondbacks and was part of a trade in which he ended up in Oakland. I've heard good things about him, but I've heard good things about lots of prospects over the years. He's a big enough prospect that if he gets a few good starts or games in the bigs his cards will go up. Example, Clayton Kershaw on the Dodgers...his cards really went up last year and Greg Smith could be similar.

    There are some very expensive pulls in this stuff, bad part is that you didn't pull any of them...you did well though...3 autos, one of them being gold. Believe
    it or not there is a want for any of these cards...you just have to find the person who is collecting these guys.

    The other 2 cards in the pack were base card refractors #ed to 199. I have to admit, that was a lot better than I usually do spending $40 on 2 blasters in Target.

    I bought a box in 2007 . I think i paid 220 $ and ended up pulling a Matt Laporta.....sold that card for 245$ . Not to bad
    considering there was 13 autos in the entire box.

    Its kinda tough buying new products because you usually(not always) have to buy the higher end products to get those
    super pulls and it can be an expensive gamble.

    Nice Carrasco!

    I watched him pitch for Clearwater on two different occasions and he pitched quite well both times. I'm pretty sure he's the Phillies top prospect.


    Edit: Just checked on BA and he's the Phillies #2 prospect this year. He was their #1 last year.

    Greg Smith pitched for LSU, was drafted by the A's (in '06?) and is now with the Rockies, as part of the Matt Holliday trade.

    He's a decent pitcher, but won't ever be better than a 3 or 4.
