Trade dollar varieties

Does anyone collect these? LSCC club members know why I ask.

I don't collect them, and yes I know why you're asking.
Our own CU member, Keoj, is conducting a survey through the Liberty Seated Collectors Club.
I just got my survey form last Friday. It won't take me long to fill it out as I only have a couple of the Trade Dollars.

We'll find out how many folks collect varieties.....LSCC asked me to do a census and I thought I'd do it correctly. I know several folks who collect the varieties but it's definitely a labor of love. There are several basic types that are intensely difficult to find.....a 1876 II/II business strike, a 1875 I/I business strike, etc. When you get into the coins like the 1876-DDO (8 currently known), its gets really difficult.

Yes, I collect the TD varieties, in a somewhat desultory fashion, but I like them and would like to learn more and perhaps join a support group.

I pick up a piece every now and then, but I don't actively search. I have three in total out of the five T$ I have.

I collect the 1876-CC doubled die reverse as part of a type set of doubled dies but that's about it for the series.

I've owned and sold several over the years. Still keep a few that are of interest to me including '76-CC DDR, '78-S DDR and I currently have a circ. chopmarked '75-S/CC in @ PCGS for grading. Not sure it will grade. May wind up in a genuine slab. I've never got into collecting the various Type1/Type2 obverse and reverse combinations during the transitional years but that seems like it would be an interesting project.

Although I have a complete set of chopmarked and non-chopmarked Trade dollars, I've never collected the varieties. I may start doing so in the future, though. I look forward to seeing Keoj's report in the Gobrecht Journal.
