Need Help: Specialty stores that would carry gold coin-related novels?

Hey Y'all,

As I've briefly mentioned, I have a young adult novel (DOUBLE EAGLE, Peachtree Publishers) coming out at the end of March, and am putting together a promotion strategy. The novel concerns two teenagers (one, a coin collector) who accidentally find an 1859-O double eagle with a CONFEDERATE logo on the reverse in an old Civil War fort in Alabama. Meanwhile a treasure hunter has also gotten wind of the coins and believes that they are in a sunken blockade runner just offshore.

I won't tell you the rest of the story, but am trying to put together a list of museum stores, etc... that might be interested in carrying the book. I'm not talking about chain stores or even regular bookstores, but places like the bookstore for the New Orleans Mint, etc... My mind has been focused on stores in the South, but perhaps I underestimate interest from other parts of the country?

Anyway, any suggestions would be a big help. Also any coin-related journals that you know to review books like this.

would love to see the finished product!! you are probably correct in assuming that interest in this will be higher in the south......i would think something like this would sell well in the pockets of the south where gold was originally found and minted into coins (Dahlonega, Charlotte, Rutherfordton) as well as cities that have a rich anitbellum history (Charleston, Savannah, etc)......most of these towns will have gift shops/museums/tourist stops that would cater to such a title

The New Oleans Mint is part of the Louisiana State Museum - you can contact them here. I don't know if they have a gift shop at the Mint building.

From what I've seen, coin-related journals review books on coins, not YA mystery/adventure novels, but perhaps you can contact notlogical (who's part of your target market, after all).

By the way, what's a "CONFEDERATE logo"?

Thank you, DaveG. I did check with the Museum and they haven't yet reopened the store in the Mint. They do have a general giftshop in the French Quarter that I'm trying to reach.

Oh, by 'logo', I mean a complete reverse design a la the test half-dollar designs the CSA minted.
