76 Down--1945 Mutoscope Artist Pin Up Girls Completed in PSA 8 or Better

When Jason Wormack, a fellow New Jersy collector, e-mailed me and said he had my next complete set with all cards 8 and better for the PSA Set Registry I was a little skeptical. I was aware of the American Beauty set and I have a few of those cards but I was unaware of the Mutoscope sets. After he showed me one of the cards I knew I had to have them. Some 64 beautiful girls in poses or outfits that no doubt would have been considered risque for its time. I subsequently found out from Jason that Mutoscope cards were produced in the 1940s and dispensed by vending machines for around two cents each. The Artists Pin Up Girls is the sixth of six sets put out by Mutoscope from 1940-45. This represents my 76th vintage or semi-vintage set I have completed with every card PSA 8 or better.

The set is 64 cards and the one Jason sold me has 5 PSA 10s, 23 PSA 9s, 18 PSA 8.5s and 18 PSA 8s and a set rating of 8.66.
This ranks it 3rd on the PSA Set Registry behind Carl Riegger(#1 also in American Beauties and Civil War News) and Jason's first set. I will let it rest at this level.

The goal remains 100 vfintage or semi-vintage sets in PSA 8 or better. I appreciate the help of all collectors and dealers in helping me achieve my goal.

    James,

I consider vintage 1959 and earlier, semi-vintage 1960-70. I have three or four from the 70s I think and I like tghem for some reason so I arbitrarily include them.

    Congratulations Jimimage

I have a bunch of the Mutoscope cards raw, and absolutely love 'emimage

One nice thing is that included in the Mutoscopes, are cards duplicating the 1944 American Beauties (of course, in the larger format). Over all, they're great companion sets to the American Beautiesimage

    Dav the perv!

Seriously, that is an incredible set, even more notable by the high grades. It really captures the era and transcends mere card collecting, as they are truly cultural items.
    Congrats Jim!

One set like this is fine but I wonder if I am overdoing it by trying to do 1944 American Beauties as well--nah, you can never have too many pretty girls.

Carl--do you have any extra American Beauties hanging around in 8 or better?

    Hey Jimbo,

Congrat's on knocking off another set.

Personally, I like to combine my vices ... so I choose the vintage American Beauties Poker cards:
