I'm like a crow--any shiny object turns my focus away from the task at hand and sends me off in another direction. Otherwise, I might get somewhere. It would help alot if you guys would quit posting pictures of such nice stuff!

well, I can finally say that I completed a series thanks to my friendly and ever helpful dealer looking through coins he usually does not deal in finding one at auction that he inspected for me and gave me the go ahead to bid and refusing any compensation or fees
No, but I HAVE decided on a series that I can work on for years and years.....and eventually complete.
Gold Dollars! (and the nice thing is theres no promotion so I dont have to pay huge prices) Currently 10 coins into the series, about 70 to go! Trying now to get the difficult dates, leaving the common for 'anytime' and the real rarities for 'special treats'.
I think that circulation strike gold dollars are the only US gold coin series that the average collector stands a chance of completing.
I've never had any serious interest in completing one series. In fact, once I acquire the key dates in the grades I can afford, I pretty much lose interest in the other coins because there's nothing special about them. I suppose if I were really into registry competition, condition rarities or die varieties, that would change my perspective.
Don't get me wrong...I do applaud those who complete their chosen series...especially those who do it with eye appealing, well-matched coins.
I would love to complete my pedigreed colonial type set though.
I have completed by date and mintmark Mercury dimes Buffalo Nickels (missing 16 DDO but have the overdates and 3 legger) I briefly had CBH date set finished until I sold the 1815 for a classic car I wanted more. My wheats are finished as I refuse to purchase the 09-s vdb. I have everything else. I just never felt it was a good value. My IHC could be finished if I ever brought a list with me to a show. I have all the key dates. Just need about half a dozen other dates.

Completed three Roosevelt sets but they do not count. Have started seven Mercury Dime sets and never completed a single one. Two coins from completion is the closest I have came. Maybe one of the two mercury sets I have going now will hit 100%.
