1866 Indian Cent S-3 Grades In

Hello all,
I picked up a nice 1866 S-3 this week, it will be off to PCGS soon for holdering, I feel it should make a MS63 RB,, we will see in the weeks to come, Coin is about 20% red with very few marks. The reverse has a very prominent die crack where the cud later developed in the later die state examples, There are several more die cracks on various areas of the coin, also some die polish marks around 2 o'clock on the reverse between wreath and denticles. There is also a small planchet defect just to the west of the date, it is more visible under lower magnifaction, you can see in the pic of the obverse.
This is a beautiful coin in hand, my pictures do it no justice.
Got the coin back today, it made 62 RB

What's with the gray area on the nose and above the eye? Is this what kept it out of a 63 holder?
